A perfume note pyramid is a communication model for perceived development, not a formula disclosure or exact evaporation schedule. Brands should use it to help customers anticipate the opening, body and dry-down while keeping the description consistent with the approved fragrance and actual wear.
Understand what the pyramid represents
Top, heart and base group impressions by when they are most noticeable. Many materials contribute across stages, and an accord may be created without the named natural ingredient. Treat the pyramid as an olfactive narrative validated with the perfumer, not a list copied from raw-material paperwork.
Start from observed development
Evaluate the finished fragrance on blotter and skin at agreed intervals. Record dominant impressions and transitions in plain language, then select only notes that help a customer distinguish the scent. A crowded pyramid can imply complexity while making the product harder to imagine.
Separate notes from ingredients
The cosmetic ingredient list serves a regulatory purpose and should come from final formula data. Note copy describes perception. Do not claim a rare oil, origin or natural percentage unless it is accurate and supportable. Qualify fantasy accords as impressions when necessary.
Use hierarchy consistently
Keep the same approved note architecture on carton, product page, retailer feed, discovery card and training material. Short formats may use a dominant trio while linking to fuller development. Prevent retailers or translators from introducing materials that change the claim.
Update after formula change
Smell revised production samples before reusing old copy. A regulatory reformulation or supplier change may preserve overall identity while altering the opening or dry-down emphasis. Version the note pyramid with the formula and archive outdated assets from shared drives and feeds.
