Getting started, quantities and cost
What is private label perfume manufacturing?
A manufacturer develops or produces fragrance products that carry the buyer’s brand identity. The agreed scope may cover formula selection, components, filling, packaging, quality records and shipment preparation.
What is the minimum order quantity for private label perfume?
Minimums are set per product: perfume 1,000 units, cologne 1,000 in glass or 2,000 in plastic, room fragrance 1,000, room spray 500, alcohol-free roll-on perfume oil 2,400, car fragrance 2,000 for the 8 ml formats and 1,000 for the 100 ml format, scented candle 500. Empty bottles and caps sold separately carry 1,000 per model.
How is minimum order quantity counted?
Minimum order quantity is per fragrance and per bottle model. Three different bottle models count as three separate minimums, and a minimum cannot be split across fragrances or models.
Can I start a perfume brand with 500 bottles?
Not for perfume. The perfume minimum is 1,000 units per fragrance and per bottle model, and it cannot be split across fragrances or models. A 500-unit minimum applies to scented candle and room spray.
How much does it cost to produce 1,000 units of private label perfume?
There is no verified standard price. Fragrance, concentration, bottle, pump, cap, decoration, carton, testing, documentation and freight must be quoted for the actual specification.
How long does it take to launch a private label fragrance from scratch?
The schedule begins with the brief and depends on sample rounds, component availability, decoration, artwork approval, production and freight.
Fragrance development, ownership and samples
Can you develop a signature scent?
A signature-scent brief can be evaluated through controlled fragrance development and sample feedback. Formula ownership, exclusivity, revision rounds and documentation should be agreed before work begins.
Who owns the fragrance formula — the brand or the manufacturer?
Ownership is contractual, not automatic. The development agreement should state whether the formula is licensed, exclusive, transferred or retained by the fragrance developer or manufacturer.
Can I select a fragrance from an existing library?
Yes, library selection can provide a faster evaluation path when suitable options exist. The approved concentration, base and finished application still require confirmation.
Packaging, components and decoration
Can you supply bottles, pumps, caps and cartons?
Component sourcing can be coordinated within the project scope. Availability, compatibility, decoration limits and supplier minimums are confirmed for the selected references.
Can packaging be customized with our logo?
Labels, direct decoration and cartons can carry approved brand artwork. Screen printing, hot foil, coatings, metallization and other finishes require component-specific feasibility and supplier confirmation.
Market requirements: UK, EU and USA
Do I need a Responsible Person to sell perfume in the UK?
A cosmetic product placed on the Great Britain market requires a UK-established Responsible Person and notification through SCPN. Northern Ireland follows a different regulatory route; verify current official requirements before launch.
What is required to sell perfume in the European Union?
An EU-established Responsible Person, safety assessment, PIF readiness, compliant labeling and CPNP notification are central elements. The exact obligations depend on the finished product and current EU rules.
What does MoCRA mean for a perfume brand selling in the USA?
MoCRA expanded US cosmetic requirements, including responsible-person, facility-registration and product-listing duties in relevant circumstances. Confirm applicability and current FDA guidance for the supply chain.
Does an IFRA certificate make a perfume legal in every market?
No. IFRA documentation supports safe fragrance use for an intended category, but it does not replace finished-product safety, labeling, notification, claims or responsible-party duties.
Can one package design be used in the USA, UK and EU?
A controlled master design may support market variants, but responsible-party details, ingredient presentation, warnings, language and notification references can differ. Artwork should be reviewed by destination.
Shipping, Incoterms and starting a project
Can you ship alcohol-based perfume to the United States by air?
Air shipment may be possible through an approved dangerous-goods route. Classification, packaging, quantity limits, documentation, carrier acceptance and importer arrangements must be confirmed for the shipment.
Which Incoterms are available?
EXW, FOB or DDP may be considered depending on route and project scope. The quotation must name the place and clarify importer, duty, tax and dangerous-goods responsibilities.
How are samples approved?
Feedback is recorded against a sample code and revision. Final approval should identify formula, concentration, components, artwork and pack configuration so production can be compared with an agreed reference.
What information is needed for a quotation?
Share the product category, destination market, estimated quantity, fragrance direction, preferred packaging, sales channel, target timing and any mandatory commercial requirement.
How do we start a project?
