Selling perfume on Amazon is not only a listing task. An alcohol-based fragrance can trigger cosmetic, dangerous-goods, barcode, packaging and inventory controls at the same time. Build the evidence pack before stock reaches a fulfilment centre; a live product page does not guarantee that Amazon will accept the shipment.
Start with the exact fulfilment route
Write down the marketplace, seller entity and whether orders will be merchant-fulfilled or sent into Fulfilment by Amazon. The route determines who imports the goods, which account owns the listing and when dangerous-goods review occurs. Do not assume approval in one marketplace transfers to another.
Create the catalogue record from the finished product: brand name, variation, net contents, country of origin, ingredient wording and pack count must agree with the label. Reserve a GS1 identifier where the chosen category requires one, and keep each size or multipack as a controlled SKU.
Prepare the dangerous-goods file before booking
Many alcohol-based perfumes are Class 3 flammable liquids. Classification depends on the finished formula and transport rules, not on a guess based on bottle size. Ask the manufacturer for a current safety data sheet that identifies the product, composition range, flash point, transport classification and revision date. The document must describe the SKU being offered.
- Confirm the UN number, proper shipping name, class and packing group with a qualified dangerous-goods professional.
- Match inner bottle, retail carton, absorbent or cushioning material and outer case to the approved route.
- Ask the carrier or fulfilment programme for written acceptance before shipping commercial inventory.
Build a listing evidence folder
Keep label artwork, product photographs, invoices, brand authorization, barcode allocation, SDS and compliance records under the same SKU code. Photograph every side of the finished pack. If Amazon asks for a document, the name and model shown in that document should match the detail page rather than a generic fragrance family.
A practical launch gate
- Create the seller account and confirm the destination marketplace.
- Freeze formula, pack size and legal label.
- Complete dangerous-goods classification and carrier review.
- Create the SKU and listing with consistent product data.
- Send a small compliant inbound shipment before committing all launch stock.
- Record the accepted case configuration for reorders.
Amazon workflows and document requests change. Check the current Seller Central help pages inside the account immediately before launch and treat the platform decision as separate from the product's legal compliance.
